Barceloneta Festa Major 2026: Key Dates and New Highlights

The Festa Major de la Barceloneta 2026 will run from Friday 25 September to Sunday 4 October, coinciding with the feast day of Saint Michael on 29 September. The festival, organised by the Barceloneta Neighbourhood Association, will take place across the streets of the Ciutat Vella district and includes traditional and new cultural elements. A major new feature this year is the debut of Dolores, Barcelona’s first Romani giantess, created through a collaboration with the Barceloneta Romani Association. The figure was designed by artist David García Llorca and will be presented during an itinerant event that pays tribute to flamenco legend Carmen Amaya.

Traditional Events and Community Focus

The festival will include long-standing traditions such as sardana dances, sung havaneres, a correfoc with devils, and a procession featuring the traditional giants Pep Barceló and Maria la Neta. Another highlight is the Cercavila del Canó, a festive parade led by a resident dressed as a Napoleonic general who fires sweets from a ceremonial cannon, a favourite among children. The streets of Barceloneta will be decorated throughout the festivities, reflecting the area’s maritime and working-class heritage. The festival also promotes urban culture with graffiti and tattoo workshops, alongside music, sports, and activities for all ages.
