Three Key Roles to Shape New Railway Company

Rodalies de Catalunya SME, SA has begun the selection process for its first three senior management positions, marking a key step in the development of the newly formed public railway operator. The appointments will help establish the leadership team under chief executive Òscar Playà, who has led the company since January 2026. The positions are Director of Operations, Director of Maintenance and Projects, and Director of Organization and People. Each will report directly to the CEO and join the company’s Management Committee, contributing to the strategic direction of the organisation. According to the Generalitat’s official announcement on 15th October 2026, the new hires will play a central role in launching and consolidating the company, with a focus on operational excellence, infrastructure modernisation, staff development, and improved service for passengers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Director of Operations will lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of train services, ensuring safety, punctuality, regularity, and service quality.
  • The Director of Maintenance and Projects will oversee asset and infrastructure maintenance, and lead investment, renovation, and modernisation programmes to improve network reliability and sustainability.
  • The Director of Organization and People will manage organisational policy, labour relations, and workforce development, driving internal transformation and social dialogue.

These are the first of several planned appointments to complete the management structure of Rodalies de Catalunya SME, SA, a mixed public company established in January 2026 following an agreement between the Catalan government and Spain’s Ministry of Transport.
