Europe's largest Rec.0 outlet festival opened today, Wednesday 6 May, in Igualada, offering shoppers discounts of up to 70% on major brands like Nike, Levi's, and Adidas. This 30th edition transforms Igualada's historic Rec neighbourhood into a vibrant shopping destination for four days.

The festival features a circuit of over 60 pop-up stores, liquidating excess stock from more than a hundred brands. International firms and local Catalan brands, including Castañer, Brownie, and Sita Murt, share space in former factories. This unique format allows access to previous season products at significantly reduced prices.

The Rec.0 event, first launched in 2009, aims to revitalise the historic Rec neighbourhood. It has become a critical annual fixture, attracting thousands of visitors. The festival runs until Saturday 9 May.

Historic Industrial Setting

The festival's location in Igualada's Rec neighbourhood is a key attraction. This area is one of Catalonia's oldest industrial zones, with active tanneries operating since the 18th century. During the event, old leather tanning factories open to the public. They transform into temporary shops, allowing visitors to explore courtyards and industrial spaces usually closed.

Beyond Shopping: Culture and Sustainability

Rec.0 extends its offerings beyond just retail therapy. This edition includes '080_La Galeria', a dedicated space for Catalan creators and artisans. It showcases locally designed and produced pieces. Additionally, the festival reinforces its commitment to sustainable fashion. A specific zone in the Museu/Cal Boyer features 'km 0' brands, creative mending workshops, and activities promoting clothing reuse.

Visitors also find a wide array of leisure and cultural activities. Over 40 gastronomic points, including around 30 food trucks and several temporary restaurants, are available. The agenda includes DJ sets by Miqui Puig, urban dance performances, open workshops, and open mic poetry. Organisers distribute free activities across various neighbourhood spaces. This hybrid format combines fashion, leisure, and culture, drawing thousands of visitors.

Getting to Igualada

The organisers have provided a large, free car park in the university area, about ten minutes from the festival grounds. A free shuttle bus connects this car park to key points within the circuit. It operates continuously between 09:30 and 23:00. From Barcelona, visitors can use the Monbus, Hispano Igualadina service, with departures every 30 minutes. This bus makes several stops in central Igualada.

Alternatively, the Bus Express service connects Barcelona to Igualada in approximately 45 minutes. The train from Plaça Espanya offers another option, with journeys lasting between 1 hour 20 minutes and 1 hour 40 minutes. Drivers can access Igualada via the A-2 motorway. The festival provides many transport choices for attendees.

The Rec.0 outlet festival continues to offer a unique blend of shopping, culture, and industrial heritage. It provides a significant economic boost to Igualada and a distinct experience for shoppers seeking quality brands at reduced prices. The event concludes on Saturday, 9 May, inviting a final surge of visitors.
