Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona's most famous avenues, recently hosted a free 10-hour jazz marathon, turning the bustling street into an open-air club. This event, held on a Sunday from midday until 22:00, marked International Jazz Day and formed part of the larger Festival de Jazz Barcelona.

Live Music on a Grand Avenue

The marathon brought live music to the heart of the city, drawing jazz enthusiasts and casual listeners alike. The Girona-based sextet, Sunset Rhythm Kings, started the event, performing rhythms reminiscent of early 20th-century New Orleans. Attendees improvised dancefloors, interacting with the musicians and enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. Festival organisers highlighted jazz as a genre symbolising freedom, dialogue, and coexistence.

Barcelona's Enduring Jazz Festival

This special event on Passeig de Gràcia is a key part of the 58th edition of the Festival de Jazz Barcelona. The festival began on 18 April and will continue through to 28 November, offering a wide programme of concerts and related activities across the city. Passeig de Gràcia, known for its modernist architecture and luxury shops, provided a unique backdrop for the musical celebration, attracting both residents and tourists.

A Cultural Highlight for the City

The free, accessible nature of the jazz marathon makes it a significant cultural offering for Barcelona's diverse population. Events like this help to enrich the city's cultural calendar, providing opportunities for community engagement through music. The festival's long run ensures that Barcelona continues to celebrate jazz throughout the autumn months.
