Barcelona’s La Mercè Pyromusical is set to move from Montjuïc to Bogatell beach because of works connected to the transformation of the Montjuïc fairgrounds, according to reporting published by La Vanguardia on 14 July.

The New Year’s Eve show will also leave its usual Montjuïc fairgrounds setting and take place at the Olympic Ring in Montjuïc. For residents and visitors, the change means the closing fireworks event of Barcelona’s main festival will be held on the Poblenou seafront rather than beside the Font Màgica.

Two major public shows change venue

  • La Mercè Pyromusical: Bogatell beach.
  • New Year’s Eve show: the Olympic Ring, the group of sports and event venues on Montjuïc.
  • Reason given: works associated with the transformation of the Montjuïc fairgrounds.

The supplied reporting does not give dates, start times, transport arrangements or public-access information for either event. People planning to attend should check announcements from Barcelona City Council, the Ajuntament, when the event programmes are published.

Montjuïc fountain works have also been under way

Separate reporting in July 2025 said the Font Màgica de Montjuïc had begun water testing during the final phase of maintenance and rehabilitation works, following a period of inactivity linked to drought and construction work.

Those works formed part of Barcelona’s Plan Endreça, which allocated €6.6 million for improvements and rehabilitation of the city’s ornamental fountains through 2028, according to information attributed to the Ajuntament by CatalunyaPress.es.
