The Festa Major de Monestir-Sant Francesc will resume on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, restoring activities affected by rain earlier this month. Residents who missed the postponed events will be able to attend free community activities including a Bolivian dance parade, a shared meal, a paella and Improshow in the neighbourhood.

The festival is a long-standing date in Sant Cugat del Vallès’s local calendar. Its original programme involved more than 50 neighbourhood organisations and businesses, alongside the Xarxa Monestir-Sant Francesc community network and the Ajuntament, the town council.

Rescheduled programme for 17 and 18 October

Saturday’s events will begin at 19:00 with a parade of Bolivian dances departing from Jardins del Vallès. The evening will continue in Plaça d’en Coll.

  • Saturday 17 October, 21:00: Dance night with Emanem’s in Plaça d’en Coll.
  • Sunday 18 October, 12:00 noon: Casal Show at Jardins de Sant Francesc.
  • Sunday 18 October, 14:00: Community paella at Jardins de Sant Francesc.
  • Sunday 18 October, 15:00: Neighbourhood Grand Raffle at Jardins de Sant Francesc.
  • Sunday 18 October, 17:00: Improshow at Jardins de Sant Francesc.

Residents can attend by going directly to the listed venues at the scheduled times. The Saturday parade starts at Jardins del Vallès, while all Sunday activities will take place at Jardins de Sant Francesc.

Rain changed the opening night programme

The festival opened on Friday 2 October, when rain moved the opening address from the amphitheatre at Jardins del Vallès to Xalet Negre. The concerts planned for that night were cancelled, while other activities were postponed for rescheduling.

Ariadna Bonet, a librarian and educator at Escola Collserola, and Toni Almeda, a teacher at Institut Joaquima Pla i Farreras, used the opening address to call for support for public education.
