Escena Barcelona Districte Cultural programme launched

The 20th edition of Escena Barcelona Districte Cultural (BDC) is underway, bringing over 145 free-access performances and concerts to 36 civic and cultural centres across all 10 districts of Barcelona. The festival runs from Thursday 8 October to Friday 19 December 2026, with shows scheduled across 11 weeks. Events include theatre, circus, dance and live music for adult and family audiences. The opening performances on 8 October are a concert by Marta Garrett and the circus show Banaba Flup by Street Fools, held at two different civic centres.

How to book free tickets

Admission is free but requires advance registration via the official Barcelona Districte Cultural website. Most shows are repeated on multiple dates and at various times, allowing flexibility in booking. A downloadable day-by-day programme in PDF format is available on the site, listing venues, times and full details of all events.

This circuit brings professional performing arts into neighbourhoods, making culture accessible to everyone.

Diverse cultural lineup

The programme features established and emerging artists. Theatre highlights include 360 grams, based on lead performer Ada Vilaró’s experience with breast cancer; Clochard by Paco Mir and Grappa Teatre; and Fumando espero by La Bacanal, blending cabaret and historical memory to explore gender and censorship. Musical offerings range from contemporary flamenco by Ana Brenes and vocal jazz by Marta Garrett, to R&B by OKDW, electronic folk fusions by Júlia Cruz, and musical journeys to Brazil and Puerto Rico by Mirla Riomar & Marcel Vallès and Marina y su Melao respectively.

Accessibility and community engagement

Eight performances are fully accessible, featuring Catalan sign language interpretation, subtitles or hearing loops. These include two concerts by OKDW and two performances of 360 grams, plus two shows by Xiula and two of El senyor Loupé for families. In addition to performances, the programme includes free workshops, talks, masterclasses and cultural walks designed to deepen community involvement in the arts. Since its launch nine years ago, Escena has presented nearly 350 free shows twice yearly, reaching around 36,600 attendees annually through more than 60 professional companies and artists. The selection process involves programming teams from the civic centre network, who review submissions received through an open call, which remains open for future editions in autumn 2027 and spring 2028.
