Performances Cancelled Across Barcelona
The Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatre Lliure, and Mercat de les Flors have suspended events scheduled for Saturday afternoon and evening in response to torrential rain warnings affecting Barcelona. The decision follows a regional directive from the Generalitat to restrict mobility across 20 Catalan regions from 8:00 PM on Saturday until 2:00 PM on Sunday. At the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the 6:00 PM performance of Aida has been cancelled because it was expected to conclude after the 8:00 PM travel restriction came into effect. The Sunday 11:00 AM matinée of Jove Aida has also been called off.
We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to our audiences, but safety must be our priority under these exceptional circumstances.
Teatre Lliure has cancelled its 50th-anniversary celebration planned for Saturday, along with two evening performances set for 8:30 PM, citing the meteorological alert. The Mercat de les Flors has also scrapped its Saturday showing of CÈL·LULA #7: À GOGO "for safety reasons given the weather situation predicted for the coming hours."
Metro Access Disrupted
Access to Liceu metro station has been closed due to the ongoing rain alert, affecting lines L1, L3, and L11 according to updates from Metro de Barcelona on their official channel. Passengers are advised to avoid non-essential travel and check real-time service status before departing. The weather alert stems from an exceptional meteorological episode with risk of a Mediterranean hurricane forming over coastal Catalonia. Civil Protection authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid all unnecessary movement during the restriction window.
