Barcelona’s 15th edition of Mercat de Mercats will take place from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 October in Plaça de les Glòries, celebrating local food culture and international culinary exchange with the South Korean province of Jeonbuk as guest of honour.
Organised by the Barcelona City Council through the Municipal Institute of Markets, the event promotes quality produce, sustainability, and proximity trade, and forms part of the European Capital of Local Commerce 2026 programme.
Local and International Flavours
Visitors will be able to purchase fresh meat, fish, vegetables, and poultry directly from municipal market stalls and have them cooked on site for free at barbecues. The presence of Jeonbuk will introduce attendees to Korean gastronomy through tastings, cultural displays, and live music.
Gastronomy and Solidarity
The Gastronomic Classroom will host live cooking sessions by leading chefs including Oriol Castro of Disfrutar, Diego Mondragón and Germán Espinosa of Mae, Iñaki Aldrey of Atempo, and Carlota Claver of La Gormanda.
Under the title "Recipes for Peace", Palestinian chef Husam Dawoud will cook alongside Ada Parellada, highlighting the role of markets as spaces for coexistence and food culture.
Music and Family Activities
The new Lakeside Terrace will feature live concerts, DJ sets, and a bar with tastings from La Bodegueta, offering regional wines, cava, and other local beverages.
A Family Space will provide educational workshops on healthy eating and sustainability. Additional performances will take place at Mercat dels Encants on Saturday.
Mercat de Mercats has evolved over 15 editions into a key platform for promoting Barcelona’s municipal markets, local produce, and community cohesion, demonstrating that markets are vital economic, social, and cultural hubs.
