The XII Marina WalkTrail will take place on Barcelona’s seafront on Sunday 18 October, after recent rain and the rise in the Besòs River forced organisers to change its planned route. The solidarity walk, organised by Hospital del Mar and the Fundació Amics de l’Hospital del Mar, raises funds for breast cancer research at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.

Residents who want to take part can choose a five-kilometre or 10-kilometre route, either walking or using Nordic walking poles. Registration and the solidarity Fila 0 option are available through Hospital del Mar; taking part requires a €15 donation.

All contributions will be directed to breast cancer research at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, according to Hospital del Mar.

Two revised routes along the coast

The shorter route will run through Diagonal Mar, La Mar Bella, El Bogatell and La Nova Icària. The 10-kilometre option will continue through Barceloneta to the Sant Sebastià breakwater before returning to Hospital del Mar.

  • Five kilometres: Diagonal Mar, La Mar Bella, El Bogatell and La Nova Icària.
  • 10 kilometres: the same coastal route, continuing through Barceloneta to the Sant Sebastià breakwater and back to Hospital del Mar.
  • Participation: walking or Nordic walking are both permitted.

Hospital del Mar describes the event as open to patients, healthcare professionals and the wider public. People unable to attend can support the research by joining the Fila 0, a virtual participation option; the hospital says both entry donations and Fila 0 contributions qualify for the tax relief available for charitable donations.

Information and chair yoga at Hospital del Mar

The finish area, called the Village, will be set up in the courtyard of Building C at Hospital del Mar. It will include information panels on breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and support for people affected by the disease, as well as a refreshment area and a souvenir-photo station.

Núria Terrades will lead two chair-based oncology yoga sessions for cancer patients in the courtyard of Building B, at 11:00 and 12:30. The sessions form part of the Village programme.

Hospital del Mar says breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and that one in eight women will develop it during their lifetime. Its research programme focuses on prevention, earlier diagnosis, more personalised treatments and patients’ quality of life.

Those planning to join the walk, or to donate without attending, can use the Hospital del Mar event page before Sunday 18 October.
