Five people broke into Barcelona-El Prat Airport in the early hours of Sunday, 13 September 2026, and stole four luxury cars, which they later used in a ram-raid at Mataró Parc shopping centre.
According to ElCaso.com, the group accessed Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport and took a Range Rover, a BMW 318, a BMW X4, and a Mercedes GLC 300. Around 6:30 AM, two of the stolen vehicles, the Range Rover and the BMW 318, were driven into the entrance of a store at Mataró Parc, the capital of the Maresme region, smashing through the door before the suspects fled.
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, recovered the two damaged cars at the scene. The BMW X4 and the Mercedes GLC 300 remain unaccounted for.
Investigation Underway
Agents from the Divisió d'Investigació Criminal (DIC), the criminal investigation division of the Mossos d'Esquadra, have opened an inquiry into the aggravated robbery. They are working to identify, locate and arrest the five suspects.
Investigators are analysing forensic evidence from the two abandoned vehicles to determine the identities of those involved and their possible hideouts.
“These types of store-ramming gangs typically use stolen cars to avoid detection,” reported ElCaso.com, noting that such crimes have increased across Catalonia recently.
The theft marks a rare targeting of El Prat Airport by organised ram-raiding groups, which more commonly steal vehicles from urban or suburban areas.
Broader Crime Pattern
- Days earlier, four foreign suspects rammed a car into a supermarket in La Llacuna (Anoia) to steal cash registers.
