On Monday, 31 August, the Verdaguer metro station on line L4 will reopen at 5am following an eight-week closure for accessibility improvements. During the shutdown, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) carried out platform raising, widening of fixed stairs, and modifications to the L4 concourse slab.
Trains on line L4 continued running throughout the works but did not stop at Verdaguer. The average daily validations at the station were 6,500 in July and 4,800 in August, according to TMB data.
Internal Transfer Between L4 and L5 Restored
From the same date, passengers can once again transfer between lines L4 and L5 via the internal passageway, which reopens after adaptation works began on 13 October last year. Previously, the connection required exiting the station. The upgrade involved removing stairs and installing a ramp to improve access.
The restoration of the internal link between L4 and L5 means users no longer need to go outside to change lines.
Ongoing Works for Full Accessibility
Civil engineering continues to build shafts for new elevators and escalators connecting the L4 concourse to its platforms. These are part of the first phase of a wider project led by the Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition of the Generalitat de Catalunya, with an investment of €8.6 million.
The full project aims to make the Verdaguer interchange fully accessible to people with reduced mobility. A second phase, currently in development, will adapt the L5 side of the interchange, including new concourses and platform adjustments.
