Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, are investigating suspected ram-raids at retail sites in Barcelona, including the Apple Store at Westfield La Maquinista in Sant Andreu and Joyerías Siglo XXI at Diagonal Mar. For shop owners and staff at major shopping centres, the incidents can mean damaged premises, interrupted business and the need to preserve security footage for police inquiries.

At the Apple Store, a vehicle was used to break through the shop front at about 6:30am on Friday, 21 August 2026, according to information confirmed by the Mossos. Patrols were alerted shortly before 6:45am, but the suspects had left by the time officers arrived.

The Mossos have not said how many people were involved, whether any goods were stolen or released further details while the investigation continues.

Incidents reported at shopping centres and city stores

Police are also investigating a break-in at Joyerías Siglo XXI inside Diagonal Mar shopping centre. The robbery was reported at 3:45am on Monday, 15 June, when offenders used a high-end Land Rover to force their way through the display window before leaving in a separate Jaguar vehicle.

No arrests had been made in either the Diagonal Mar or La Maquinista investigations when the reports were published.

A similar method was reported at the Ànecblau shopping centre in Castelldefels, where suspects entered in a 4x4 vehicle and used a Fiat 500 against the display windows of two jewellery shops.

Business owners may be asked for CCTV evidence

The Mossos are reviewing security footage and gathering evidence in the Diagonal Mar case. Businesses in affected retail areas that hold recordings or other information connected to an incident can provide it to Mossos investigators handling the case.

The reported break-ins concern high-value retail premises, but they do not alter the broader recorded crime trend published by Barcelona City Council: offences in the city fell 8.8% in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period a year earlier. The council said break-ins at establishments fell 50.7% over that period.

The Mossos investigation into the Apple Store break-in remains open.
