Mossos investigate violent death in Nou Barris

Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, are investigating the violent death of a man found seriously injured in Carrer d'Almansa in Barcelona's Nou Barris district at about 12.30pm on Thursday 6 August. The man was taken to hospital in a critical condition after losing a large amount of blood, but died from his injuries.

The case has been assigned to the force's Divisió d'Investigació Criminal (DIC), its criminal investigation division. No arrest had been reported, and police had not publicly confirmed the weapon used or the motive.

Four ambulances sent to Carrer d'Almansa

Guàrdia Urbana, Barcelona's municipal police, found the victim after a patrol followed a trail of blood along the pavement in Carrer d'Almansa, according to reports of the incident.

Guàrdia Urbana alerted Mossos d'Esquadra and the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), Catalonia's medical emergency service.
Four ambulances attended and treated the man before taking him to hospital in a critical condition.
The DIC has taken charge of the investigation, which is under judicial secrecy.

Investigators are examining the circumstances of the death. Early reporting suggested officers were considering whether the man had suffered a bladed-weapon attack, but this has not been confirmed by police.

The victim's age, identity and nationality had not been released. Police had not announced any detention in connection with the case.
