Barcelona Metro passengers using L1 faced disruption on Monday 27 July after a fire in the overhead line between Glòries and Clot. Glòries station was evacuated and Clot was closed, while the interruption halted trains between La Sagrera and Universitat for about three hours.
The closure affected commuters travelling through the central section of L1, who could only use services on either side of the affected stretch while the line was de-energised.
“A tunnel lining may have caused the fire in the L1 overhead line,” TMB chief executive Xavier Flores said, according to Europa Press.
Service was restricted from 1.30 pm to 4.45 pm
ARA reported that an asphalt sheet covering part of the tunnel wall fell at about 1.30 pm. Repairs required power to be switched off on the section between La Sagrera and Universitat.
- From 1.30 pm, L1 ran between Hospital de Bellvitge and Universitat, and between Clot and Fondo.
- Normal service was restored at 4.45 pm, according to ARA.
- The section between La Sagrera and Glòries had also been closed over the preceding weekend for accessibility work at Clot, where five lifts are planned between the concourse and platforms.
Passengers travelling after 4.45 pm could use the full L1 route again.
