Passengers with intellectual disabilities and others at risk of becoming disoriented on the Barcelona Metro can now use a new easy-to-read guide designed to support independent travel. The publication is available in print at Punts TMB customer service points and digitally through the websites of the organisations behind it.
TMB, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona, developed the guide with Dincat, the federation representing the intellectual-disability sector in Catalonia. The organisations describe it as an orientation tool that helps users prepare, carry out and complete a journey on the underground network.
Eleven chapters follow a Metro journey step by step
The guide is organised into 11 chapters covering the stages of travelling by Metro, from leaving home to arriving at the destination. It includes information on:
- preparing a journey before leaving home;
- entering Metro stations;
- validating tickets;
- understanding signs inside trains; and
- reaching the intended destination.
The content follows UNE Standard 153101:2018 EX, an easy-reading standard for preparing documents. A team of people with intellectual disabilities from Grup Cooperatiu TEB checked and validated the guide's language, design and structure.
Print copies at Punts TMB and digital access
People who want a printed copy can ask at Punts TMB. The guide is also available in digital form through the websites of TMB and Dincat, according to the organisations.
TMB and Dincat will also distribute it to associations within Dincat, councils in the Barcelona metropolitan area and the Institut Municipal de Persones amb Discapacitat, the municipal institute for people with disabilities.
