Flood defences deployed at Line 9 station

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has installed anti-flood barriers at one entrance of Parc Logístic station on metro Line 9, in preparation for heavy rain forecast for Saturday evening 17 October 2026. This marks the first time the barriers, loaned from the Barcelona Fire Department, have been used to protect metro infrastructure from water ingress.

Response to past flooding

The station was previously affected by torrential rains in early October, which disrupted access to the Zona Franca industrial area for several days. In response, TMB has begun the process of purchasing additional flood barriers for use across other vulnerable stations during periods of intense rainfall. For now, temporary measures including sandbags are also being used alongside the new barriers to reinforce protection.

These preventive actions are part of a broader review of network vulnerabilities in the face of extreme weather events.

TMB operates the metro and bus services in Barcelona, including Line 9, which connects central Barcelona with the southern suburbs and El Prat Airport.

What this means for commuters

Commuters using Parc Logístic station are advised to monitor TMB's official channels for real-time updates, particularly if heavy rain occurs. No service disruptions are currently reported, but passengers should allow extra time for access if conditions worsen. The official TMB website provides live service status and safety alerts at www.tmb.cat.
