Service Disruptions Following Train Fire
Ouigo announced on Tuesday 13 October 2026 that it will cancel two high-speed trains on the Barcelona–Madrid route for Wednesday, 14 October, following a fire involving a train in Ricla, Zaragoza. The French operator confirmed that Ouigo train 6500, scheduled to depart Barcelona Sants at 10:40, and Ouigo train 6570, due to leave at 17:40, will not run. Passengers affected by the cancellations will be rebooked onto alternative services. Those originally on train 6500 will be reallocated to a service departing at 13:50, while passengers on train 6570 will be moved to a train leaving Barcelona at 20:20.
All affected travellers have been notified of the changes, and those wishing to can cancel their tickets and receive a full refund.
This follows a broader disruption across the Madrid–Barcelona high-speed corridor. Iryo has also suspended four trains at the request of Adif, Spain's rail infrastructure manager, due to ongoing operational constraints caused by the incident.
Recovery Efforts Underway
Adif confirmed that infrastructure assessments are ongoing following the fire. While some services are gradually resuming, capacity remains limited. Renfe has adjusted its operations, with some AVE services returning to normal schedules, though others continue to operate in coupled formation to manage demand. Travellers are advised to check the Adif network status page and the Ouigo website for real-time updates. Customer service lines remain open for assistance.
