Terrassa City Council has introduced a free shuttle minibus running every 25 minutes until Sunday 6 July because Festa Major road closures have removed regular bus stops on Rambla d'Ègara, Terrassa's main central boulevard. For residents, workers and visitors travelling through the centre, that means longer walks to temporary stops unless they use the shuttle service during the festival.
The measure follows criticism from the PSC, the Socialists' Party of Catalonia, over the removal of stops and what it described as poor planning around the city centre changes, according to MónTerrassa and Laciutat. The shuttle is being used during Festa Major, Terrassa's annual summer festival, when traffic and public transport routes are altered across the centre.
- The shuttle is free to use.
- It runs every 25 minutes.
- It is operating until Sunday 6 July.
- It is intended to replace access lost when stops on Rambla d'Ègara are closed.
Ferrocarrils will offer uninterrupted service on the nights of Festa Major in Terrassa.
Festival closures divert buses through Arquimedes and Galileu
Local bus routes are being diverted through Carrer d'Arquimedes and Carrer de Galileu during the festival period, according to Diari de Terrassa and Terrassa Digital, which reported the changes citing council mobility information. Those diversions affect journeys across central Terrassa at the same time as pedestrian restrictions are in place for festival events.
Terrassa Digital reported that this year's Festa Major programme includes 350 events and new protocols. That increase in activity means more street closures and more pressure on the transport network in the centre.
Diari de Terrassa also reported that Carrer d'Arquimedes was closed for more than two hours because of the poor state of the road surface before reopening, adding to disruption on one of the streets now being used for diverted traffic.
Late-night rail and bus services continue during the festival
The Catalan government said through Govern.cat that Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan government-owned rail operator, will run uninterrupted overnight services during Festa Major in Terrassa. The overnight operation also covers the festival nights in Rubí and Sant Cugat.
Terrassa is also keeping intermediate request stops on the night bus during Festa Major, according to MónTerrassa. That allows passengers, especially women and people travelling alone, to ask to get off between standard stops on safer parts of the route where conditions allow.
What travellers should check before setting out
Anyone using buses through central Terrassa should allow extra time and check whether their usual stop on Rambla d'Ègara is closed. Where available, the free shuttle minibus is the direct replacement for the suspended city-centre stops.
For current mobility changes during Festa Major, travellers can check the Ajuntament de Terrassa mobility information reported by Terrassa Digital and service updates from Ferrocarrils for overnight rail travel.
