Return Date Confirmed for 18 Affected Homes and Shops

Residents of the building at Teodora Lamadrid, 5 in Barcelona's Putxet district will be able to return to their homes on 26 October 2026, once final consolidation and monitoring work is completed. The date was confirmed by the Generalitat following technical assessments of ground stability. The return affects 18 residential and commercial units, 15 homes and three commercial premises, that were evacuated in July 2026 after a subsidence event linked to construction of the L9 metro line.

The absolute objective of the Government is the safety of people.

Pilar Díaz, the Generalitat’s delegate in Barcelona, reiterated that all returns are conditional on safety verification, stating: "The absolute objective of the Government is the safety of people." The Director General of Mobility Infrastructure, Ramon Ramírez, confirmed that a month of continuous ground consolidation work had made the 26 October timeline possible.

18 Homes and 7 Shops Still Waiting for Return

Meanwhile, 18 homes and seven commercial premises in the more severely affected buildings, Teodora Lamadrid, 3 and Rubinstein, 2 and 4, will remain evacuated for longer. These properties represent approximately 20% of the total initially displaced. Current estimates indicate these residents will not be able to return until the end of 2026 or early 2027, pending completion of structural reinforcement and monitoring. Technical teams from the Generalitat and Barcelona City Council continue to coordinate on subsidence control and safety verification. A permanent monitoring office has been established to oversee the L9 works and improve communication with affected residents.
