Barcelona’s digital and tech sector continues to expand, supported by growing professional networks and institutional collaboration. Tech Barcelona, the city’s leading tech ecosystem organisation, now counts over 1,400 members and nearly 100 partners, reinforcing its position as a central pillar in the regional innovation landscape.
According to the Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation’s Digital Talent Overview 2025 report, Barcelona employed 129,608 ICT professionals in 2024, a 6% increase from the previous year. The city added 7,423 new digital professionals, driven by demand for specialists in application development, Agile and Scrum methodologies, and emerging fields such as 5G, sustainable computing, and quantum technologies.
Expanding Membership and Strategic Alliances
Tech Barcelona has recently partnered with entrepreneurial networks including Talent Garden, SheBlooms, The Social Hub, Karisma, Circles House, and Manglar. These collaborations extend access to exclusive services for members across Europe and Latin America, enhancing cross-border innovation.
With nearly 1,500 members, Tech Barcelona is the leading voice of Barcelona’s tech and digital ecosystem, and one of the most prominent in Europe.
The association, originally founded by entrepreneurs in 2013, serves startups, investors, tech leaders, and major corporations. In 2024, it was recognised as a ‘Startup Ecosystem Star 2024’ by international innovation networks.
Barcelona’s Rising Tech Hub Status
Data from the Barcelona City Council shows continued growth in the city’s tech infrastructure. In 2024, there were 160 ICT-focused tech hubs in Barcelona, a 6% rise from 140 in 2023. These hubs employ over 34,869 people and generate €2.8 billion in revenue.
The Digital and Tech 2025 and Startups and Scaleups 2025 reports, published by the city’s Department of Economy, confirm Barcelona’s status as southern Europe’s preferred destination for tech startups and the fifth-ranked city in Europe for digital innovation.
International Collaboration and Expansion
Tech Barcelona has formed strategic alliances with international innovation centres, including Maria 01 in Helsinki and Innovally in Almere, to strengthen cross-ecosystem collaboration. EAE Business School Barcelona has also established its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hub at Pier01, part of Tech Barcelona’s Urban Tech Campus.
Further growth is supported by new corporate partners such as Semrush and Adlanter, both of which joined in 2024 to support startup acceleration and talent development in the city.
