Commuters on the R1 between Arenys de Mar and Maçanet-Maçanes will need to use replacement road transport on Monday morning, while the R11 will not resume its usual rail service after the weekend storm.
RAC1, reporting Renfe's Monday service update, said R1 trains will run between Arenys de Mar and Badalona. The closed northern stretch between Arenys de Mar and Maçanet-Maçanes will be covered by buses. Parts of the R2 Nord and R4 will operate on a single track because of landslides recorded during the rainfall.
The R7 and R8 will also have replacement road transport, according to the same update. Rail services are due to return progressively after exploratory runs and safety inspections carried out on Sunday.
Water removal continues at Plaça Catalunya tunnel
Maintenance teams worked overnight at the Plaça Catalunya tunnel in central Barcelona, using pumps to remove accumulated water. The Ministry of Transport's forecast, as reported by RAC1, is that the tunnel will not prevent trains from running.
The bridge at the mouth of the Besòs river is in "correct condition", according to Ministry of Transport sources cited by RAC1.
The Besòs reached a flow of 900 cubic metres and rose close to the railway bridge during the storm, RAC1 reported. The Ministry said the structural damage identified so far was limited to two minor landslides on the network.
Routes affected on Monday morning
- R1: trains will run between Arenys de Mar and Badalona; buses will replace trains between Arenys de Mar and Maçanet-Maçanes.
- R2 Nord and R4: some sections will operate on a single track after landslides.
- R11, R7 and R8: rail service will not fully resume, with replacement road transport arranged on affected sections.
- R3: trains will run between La Garriga and Ripoll, while buses will cover the Ripoll-Puigcerdà section. A separate replacement bus service between Fabra i Puig and Puigcerdà remains in place because of track-doubling works.
Passengers travelling between Arenys de Mar and Maçanet-Maçanes should allow extra time for the replacement buses. RAC1 said the R1 has been affected by mud, stones and sediment following overflowing streams.
