Passenger services resume after safety checks
Passenger trains on high-speed and long-distance routes from Barcelona Sants station resumed service this afternoon, after being suspended all morning due to severe weather. Renfe confirmed at 13:00 that frequencies would be restored progressively, with services gradually returning to normal. During the morning, safety inspections known as 'marchas exploratorias' – test runs without passengers – were carried out across affected lines to verify track conditions. These are standard procedures following extreme weather events.
Rodalies and regional lines still disrupted
Rodalies commuter rail and Regional services remained offline throughout Sunday as checks continued. The target is for full restoration by Monday. In the interim, replacement bus services are operating on several lines. From 12:30, alternative road transport was reinstated for Rodalies lines R3, R13 and R14. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC) restored its Llobregat-Anoia line at 13:00, with the Vallès line resuming progressively from 14:00.
Traveller advice
Passengers are advised to check real-time updates via the Renfe website, the Rodalies de Catalunya portal, or official social media channels before travelling. Information is also available through station staff and public address systems. Renfe has deployed additional customer service staff at major stations to assist travellers with route changes and delays.
