Tram Suspension Affects Diagonal Corridor

Tram services on lines T1, T2 and T3 in Barcelona will be fully suspended between Francesc Macià and Montesa from Saturday 10 October to Monday 12 October. The disruption, confirmed by TRAM and the Barcelona City Council, is due to scheduled track renewal works at the Alfons Florensa street junction along Avinguda Diagonal. During this period, from 5:00 AM on 10 October until the end of service on 12 October, T1, T2 and T3 trams will only operate between their terminal stops and Montesa station. No trams will run on the central Diagonal stretch between Montesa and Francesc Macià.

To facilitate user mobility, a special bus service will operate, covering the section between Francesc Macià and Montesa throughout the period of disruption, with frequencies adapted to the usual demand of the affected service.

Replacement Buses and Metro Alternatives

A dedicated shuttle bus service will run between the affected stops, matching regular tram frequencies as closely as possible. Passengers are also advised to use Metro lines L3 and L5 as alternative routes across the city. The shuttle and adjusted tram operations are designed to minimise disruption during the three-day closure.

Traffic Changes on Avinguda Diagonal

Road traffic on the side lanes of Avinguda Diagonal will also be affected. The junction with Doctor Marañón Avenue will be closed to vehicles from 10 to 12 October. However, due to the absence of tram traffic, access from the central median of Diagonal to its side lanes will be permitted at John Maynard Keynes Street. On Tuesday 13 October, tram service will resume, but the road closure at Doctor Marañón will remain in place. Normal traffic flow at John Maynard Keynes Street will be restored.

Trambesòs Works Enter Final Phase

Meanwhile, urbanisation works to cover and double the tram tracks on Gran Via between Badajoz and Bilbao streets entered their final phase on Thursday 1 October. As reported by the Barcelona Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM), this means the closure of Trambesòs lines T5 and T6 is now reduced to the section between Glòries and Can Jaumandreu. The ATM confirmed this partial closure will continue until spring 2027, when the project is expected to be completed. During this time, Metro line L4 at Besòs station offers connections to T4 at Maresme, while Selva de Mar links to Glòries. For travel between Glòries and Can Jaumandreu, bus line H12 and night bus N2 are recommended alternatives. The works, which began in October 2025, aim to improve safety and reliability by upgrading ageing infrastructure.
