Chairs and Bottles Used in Downtown Brawl

A violent street fight erupted in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona late on Tuesday 27th October 2026, at around 11pm, near number 66 on Passeig de Joan de Borbó. According to reports from ElCaso.com, two groups of young people began fighting, escalating from shoving to the use of glass bottles and furniture from a restaurant terrace. Witnesses reported seeing one man grab a chair and strike his opponent, who was armed with a wooden stick. Footage reviewed by the outlet shows the man with the chair falling to the ground, being struck while down, then managing to get up and escape, only to fall a second time after being pushed. The incident unfolded in a public area frequented by residents and tourists, raising concerns about safety in the neighbourhood.

Police and Medical Response

A passer-by called emergency services at 112, prompting a rapid response from the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police. Officers from the Unitat de Seguretat Ciutadana (USC) arrived at the scene and arrested six individuals involved in the fight. All were of foreign origin, and though initially detained, the arrests were later rescinded, meaning they were released without being brought before a judge, but may be summoned by the investigating court at a later date.

The Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) deployed several ambulances to treat those injured. Medical staff provided on-site assistance to multiple individuals suffering from minor injuries, with some transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that no one’s life was in danger.

Police are investigating the cause of the altercation, which remains unclear.

The Mossos d'Esquadra have not released the identities of those involved, and no charges have yet been formally filed. The incident is under active investigation.
