Daniel Sirera, leader of the Partido Popular (PP) group at Barcelona City Council, has urged Mayor Jaume Collboni and Salvador Illa, president of the Generalitat, Catalonia's regional government, to back Barcelona's case to host the 2030 World Cup final at Camp Nou.
In a statement reported by Europa Press on 7 August 2026, Sirera called on both leaders to press the Spanish government. The request concerns the tournament's deciding match, rather than Barcelona's role as a host city more generally.
“Barcelona cannot settle for being just another host city. We have the best stadium, the largest capacity in Europe and the footballing history needed to host the World Cup final.”
Sirera cites planned 105,000-seat capacity
Sirera said public institutions in Catalonia had a duty to defend the bid decisively and work together to bring the final to Barcelona.
