Sant Adrià de Besòs, just north of Barcelona, is set for a €10 million urban transformation near the Tres Xemeneies. The plan will modernise industrial land, add new public space and improve the area between the Besòs river and the C-31 motorway.
The funding comes from the European Regional Development Fund, through the Next Generation EU programme. The project is meant to address a long-standing gap in the metropolitan area, where some streets and industrial buildings have changed little for decades while nearby districts have seen new universities and digital hubs.
Mayor Filo Cañete said the scheme will help modernise industrial zones, improve public spaces and attract new businesses that generate quality employment. The aim is to bring in companies linked to digital, audiovisual, innovation and research sectors. For the official EU programme behind the funding, see the European Regional Development Fund and Next Generation EU.
The work will focus on several streets, including Carrer de la Mare de Déu del Carme, Carrer de Cristòbal de Moura, Carrer de la Pau, Carrer de la Indústria, Carrer de la Mina, Carrer de la Catalana and Carrer de la Central. Plans include better accessibility, lighting, street furniture and more green space.
A new green corridor is also planned to link the Besòs riverfront with the Tres Xemeneies area. Officials say that connection should support walking and cycling, while improving day-to-day life for Sant Adrià’s 37,000 residents. The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
