Work begins next week on city-wide upgrades

Sabadell City Council has awarded contracts for renovation works on 10 public squares and children's play areas across the city, aiming to make them greener, safer and more accessible. The €2.2 million project will be carried out progressively throughout 2026, with work due to begin next week at Plaça de Joan Coromines in the Gràcia neighbourhood. The first phase will also include Plaça de Llívia and Plaça de Montellà in La Roureda, and Plaça de la Creu Alta, with works scheduled to start in early February.

10 sites to benefit from improvements

The renovation programme covers sites across Sabadell, from north to south. The 10 locations are:

  • Plaça de Montellà
  • Plaça de Llívia
  • Parc Taulí
  • Plaça de la Creu Alta
  • Plaça de Joan Coromines
  • Plaça de Castelao
  • Plaça de Gernika
  • Parc de Can Gambús
  • Plaça de Quebec
  • Plaça Magdalena Calonge

All works are expected to be completed before the end of 2026.

What improvements will be made?

A total of 12,446 square metres of green space and play areas will be upgraded. While each site will have customised improvements, the overall goals are shared: greater accessibility, comfort and inclusivity for residents. Key upgrades include:

  • Planting over 100 new trees and increasing vegetation, with new garden areas including shrubs at Plaça de la Creu Alta
  • Installing 46 new inclusive play elements such as carousels, sandpits, sound games, wooden structures and slides, designed for children of all abilities
  • Repairing around 40 damaged existing play items with more durable components
  • Improving paving, replacing fences, and installing new street furniture including benches and bins

Part of wider public space investment

This initiative forms part of the city’s Invertim en allò que importa project, specifically the Els diners als carrers (Money on the Streets) line, which aims to improve public spaces for community use and wellbeing. Recent years have seen major upgrades to Parc del Nord and Parc de les Aigües, while works continue at Jardins del Sud and around Mercat de Campoamor. The current programme extends these efforts to 10 additional family-focused areas. Residents can follow progress via the official city council announcement.
