More Than 3,350 Residents on Waiting List

More than 3,352 residents of Sant Cugat are currently waiting for officially protected rental housing, according to figures released by the municipality and its housing agency, Promusa. The waiting list includes 1,800 young people and 350 seniors, highlighting growing pressure on affordable housing in one of Catalonia’s most expensive cities. Only 833 protected rental units are available across the city, meaning demand outstrips supply by a ratio of more than four to one.

Draw Sets Order for Future Allocations

On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, the Ajuntament de Sant Cugat and Promusa held a public draw to establish the priority order for allocating protected homes as they become vacant. No specific apartments were assigned; instead, the raffle determined the sequence in which applicants will be considered when units open up, provided they still meet eligibility criteria. The results of the draw for youth, senior, and general rental categories are now available via the Register of Applicants for Protected Housing (HPO), managed by the Catalan Housing Agency.

The draw ensures transparency in how we allocate limited resources fairly," said a municipal spokesperson.

Benet Moxó Development to Add 35 Units

The next major allocation will come from the Benet Moxó development in Can Mates, where 35 new protected rental homes are under construction. According to municipal data published in March 2026, work on the project is advancing and will contribute to the annual turnover of around 70 vacated protected units that become available each year. These homes, along with future developments such as the 60-unit Jeroni de Pujades project, will be assigned using the newly established waiting order. Residents seeking information or wishing to apply can contact the Local Housing Office (OLH), located on Passeig Francesc Macià, which centralises access to housing support, subsidies, and listings.
