Today, Thursday 8 October 2026, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) – Catalonia 2025-2026 report will be presented at 11:45 AM at the Eureka building of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

The event, part of a public open day co-organised by the Diputació de Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya, Institut Metròpoli and UAB, will reveal key findings on early-stage entrepreneurial activity across the region. Among the metrics reported is the Total Early-stage Entrepreneurial Activity (TEA) rate, which measures the percentage of adults aged 18–64 involved in starting or running new businesses.

Report Presentation and Panel Discussion

The GEM Catalonia 2025-2026 general report will be presented by Vittorio Galletto, Head of the Regional and Urban Economy Area at Institut Metròpoli, and Carlos Guallarte, Director of GEM Catalonia.

At 12:30 PM, a panel discussion will follow, moderated by Galletto, featuring:

  • Roger Pumares, Manager of Economic Promotion and Employment Services at the Diputació de Barcelona
  • Jaume Baró, Secretary of Business and Innovation of the Generalitat de Catalunya
  • Carlos Guallarte, Director of GEM Catalonia

Event Schedule and Media Access

A media-friendly coffee break will take place at 11:15 AM, allowing time for image capture ahead of the presentation. Following the debate, participants will be available for media inquiries.

The full day’s programme includes an institutional welcome at 10:00 AM with remarks from Rosa Maria Sebastián, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship at UAB; Roger Pumares; and Anna Miquel, Deputy Director-General for Entrepreneurship at the Generalitat. A keynote by Xavier López, Director-General of Eurecat, on connecting university research with local industry precedes a roundtable on female entrepreneurship.

The GEM project is a global research initiative coordinated internationally across more than 50 countries. In Catalonia, it is jointly produced by Institut Metròpoli and the UAB Department of Business under the direction of Carlos Guallarte, and promoted by the Department of Business and Labour of the Generalitat and the Diputació de Barcelona.
