Oques Grasses Curate Final Fireworks Soundtrack

The 2026 La Mercè Piromusical will feature a custom soundtrack curated by Josep Montero, frontman of Catalan band Oques Grasses, marking a significant cultural moment as the group prepares for their farewell concerts. The fireworks spectacle will take place on Sunday, 27 September at Nova Icària beach, a new location due to ongoing construction works at the Fira de Barcelona on Avinguda Maria Cristina. Montero, described as the creative soul of Oques Grasses, has selected an eclectic playlist with a strong emphasis on Catalan-language music, following public feedback about limited use of the local language in previous editions.

The choice of a Catalan-language group comes after complaints about the limited use of Barcelona’s own language in the past two editions.

The musical mix has been engineered by Marçal Cruz from Oido studio, while Pirotècnia Igual will design and synchronise the fireworks display to the music.

A Landmark Year for Oques Grasses

The band’s involvement coincides with their final performances, scheduled for 5, 7, 9 and 10 October 2026 at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Nearly 220,000 tickets for the four concerts sold out within hours, with the first show’s tickets gone in just 21 minutes. Oques Grasses, formed in Osona in 2010, will become the first Catalan-language act to headline the Olympic Stadium not as part of a festival, surpassing attendance records set by Lluís Llach at Camp Nou in 1985 and the Sangtraït concert at Palau Sant Jordi in 2011.

Since 2023, the Piromusical has adopted an 'auteur' format, with guest artists shaping the musical programme. The Sónar festival launched the concept in its 30th anniversary year, followed by Rosalía in 2024 and Estopa in 2025. The 2026 edition continues this tradition with Montero’s personal curation. Residents and visitors can attend the Piromusical free of charge. The exact start time will be confirmed closer to the event by the Ajuntament de Barcelona.
