Motorcyclist killed in central Barcelona collision
A 38-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision at the intersection of Aribau and Mallorca streets in Barcelona's Eixample district on Monday morning, 31 August 2026. The motorcyclist was stopped at the junction when struck by a car whose driver fled the scene. Emergency services transported the injured rider to a hospital, where he later died.

Driver arrested, breathalyzer refused
The driver of the car was detained by the Mossos d'Esquadra near the intersection of Aragó and Bruc streets shortly after the incident. The Guàrdia Urbana, Barcelona’s municipal police force responsible for urban traffic safety, took custody of the suspect. According to authorities, the driver refused to take a breathalyzer test. He now faces investigation for multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and involuntary manslaughter. Units from the Guàrdia Urbana's Central Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (UCAT) are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.
