Expanded Support for Victims of Gender-Based Violence

Barcelona City Council has opened a new facility for the Service of Attention, Recovery, and Welcome (SARA) in the Eixample district, significantly expanding access to specialised support for victims of gender-based violence. The centre, located at Carrer Muntaner, 200, began operations this week as part of a citywide effort to provide more accessible, equitable, and timely care. This new location complements the existing SARA centre in Nou Barris at Carrer Marie Curie, 16, allowing the city to divide service areas and reduce wait times. The Muntaner site will serve residents in Ciutat Vella, Eixample, Sants-Montjuïc, Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Gràcia, and Sant Martí.

Who Can Access the Service

The SARA service provides free, confidential, outpatient care to all women, children, and adolescents affected by gender-based violence, regardless of age, disability, legal status, sexual orientation, or origin. Support includes personalised recovery plans, legal and social advice, access to protection resources in cases of moderate or high risk, and job placement assistance. SARA Jove, a dedicated outreach service for young people aged 12 to 17 experiencing gender-based violence, will also operate from the new facility.

The expansion ensures that more victims can access professional help close to home, with tailored support throughout their recovery journey.

How to Access the Service

General in-person appointments must be booked by calling the free helpline 900 922 357, available Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and Monday to Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. For urgent cases, emergency in-person attention is available without an appointment at the Marie Curie location from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
