Escape During Supervised Leave
A convicted murderer has escaped from Mas d'Enric prison in Tarragona during a scheduled day release. The inmate, who has been serving a 21.5-year sentence since 2011, fled at midday on Thursday while on a supervised outing, according to ElCaso.com and La Razón. The escape occurred when the prisoner was taken to a restaurant in the Les Gavarres area. Authorities report he claimed he needed to use the restroom before fleeing the premises unnoticed.
Hunt Underway Across Catalonia
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, have launched an immediate manhunt. Security patrols and ARRO (Rapid Response Units) have been activated across the region in an effort to locate the fugitive, who remains at large. The prisoner was convicted of murdering a man in 2007 after the victim entered a romantic relationship with the inmate's sister. He has been incarcerated at Mas d'Enric since his sentencing in 2011.
The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity directly to the Mossos d'Esquadra.
Residents in rural areas of Tarragona and Girona are advised to lock doors and avoid approaching unfamiliar individuals, especially in wooded or isolated zones where the fugitive may attempt to hide.
