Woman Detained in Connection with Infant's Death
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, have arrested a 33-year-old woman in connection with the death of an infant found in a stairwell in the La Mina neighbourhood of Sant Adrià de Besòs. The body of the newborn was discovered on Wednesday 2 September 2026, at approximately 13:00, inside a plastic bag on the landing of a residential building on Carrer Llevant. A cleaner reportedly noticed blood near the bag, prompting the alert to emergency services. Police and emergency medical teams attended the scene, and the case was handed to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DIC) to determine the circumstances.
Arrest and Judicial Measures
The woman, identified as the infant’s mother, was arrested on Thursday 3 September. She appeared before the duty court in Badalona on Friday 4 September and has since been released pending further investigation. According to the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), the court has ordered precautionary measures: she has been barred from leaving Spanish territory, must surrender her passport, and is required to make regular appearances at the court. The woman remains under formal investigation, but no charges have yet been formally filed. The judicial phase is ongoing, and authorities have not confirmed the cause of death or the exact nature of the alleged involvement.
