Fireworks to Light Up the Coastline
The traditional piromusical will close the 2026 La Mercè festivities on Sunday, 27 September, with a new location and musical direction. Instead of its usual site on Avinguda Maria Cristina near Plaça d’Espanya, the display will launch from the Bogatell breakwater and be viewed primarily from Nova Icària beach in the Sant Martí district. This change is due to ongoing construction work by Fira de Barcelona on the Montjuïc avenue, which has made the previous site unavailable. The fireworks, produced by the renowned Pirotècnia Igual, will be synchronised to a curated soundtrack beginning at 21:30, with the official start time listed as 22:00 by the city council.
Music Chosen by Oques Grasses Frontman
For the third consecutive year, the city has commissioned a prominent Catalan artist to select the piromusical playlist. This year, Josep Montero, lead singer of the Osona-based band Oques Grasses, has chosen a diverse mix of tracks spanning multiple genres and eras. The music will not feature songs by Oques Grasses themselves, but rather a selection of iconic tracks from music history, reflecting Montero’s eclectic taste. Previously, the playlist was curated by Sónar festival in 2023, Rosalía in 2024, and Estopa in 2025.
The Piromusical, combining fireworks, music and emotion, will magnificently close the city's festivities.
Transport and Access
To accommodate the expected crowds, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will reinforce metro services across all lines, with special emphasis on L4 (the yellow line), which runs along the coastline. The closest stations to Nova Icària beach are Ciutadella / Vila Olímpica and Barcelona. The metro will remain in operation until midnight on Sunday to support post-event travel. Residents and visitors are encouraged to check the official TMB La Mercè page for real-time service updates and to plan their journey in advance.
