Agents from the Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with a firearms incident and violent assault in the Roquetes neighbourhood of Nou Barris, Barcelona. The arrest was made on Thursday 15 October 2026, following an investigation into events that occurred in the early hours of Monday 9 August.
The investigation began after multiple emergency calls to 112 reported a large brawl in Roquetes, with witnesses describing gunshots and an injured person. The injured individual has not yet been located by authorities.
Scientific Police officers recovered a spent cartridge casing and a projectile at the scene, along with evidence of a bullet impact on a parked vehicle. Forensic inspections of two vehicles linked to the incident provided further investigative leads, according to the Mossos d'Esquadra press release published on 18 October.
Man Identified and Arrested
After identifying the suspect and locating his residence, investigators executed a search and seizure on 15 October, leading to his arrest. He was brought before judicial authorities the same day.
The man has 16 prior police arrests with the Mossos d'Esquadra, primarily for crimes against property, persons, and public health. He holds no firearm licence and is not registered as the legal owner of any weapon.
The investigation determined that the detainee had sixteen previous police arrests by the Mossos d’Esquadra.
Context of Violence in Nou Barris
The incident follows heightened police activity in Nou Barris, a district with documented issues involving youth gangs and street violence. On 14 October, the Mossos arrested three individuals in connection with a fatal group assault on Carrer de Romaní, also in Roquetes, underscoring ongoing tensions in the area.
Witnesses in that separate case described an attack by a group of six to eight people, with police investigating possible links to inter-gang conflict. Though unrelated to the firearms case, the proximity and timing highlight persistent security challenges in the neighbourhood.
