The Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, have arrested three people so far in L’Hospitalet during a new Kanpai operation carried out on Friday 16 October with the National Police and the Guàrdia Urbana, the municipal police force.
The operation is continuing into the early hours of Saturday. Residents and late-night Metro users may encounter police checks around the exits of Torrassa, Florida, Collblanc and Pubilla Cases stations, where officers have been checking people leaving the network.
Kanpai is a policing plan aimed specifically at tackling repeat offending. The deployment in L’Hospitalet is part of a wider operation that has also involved El Prat, Cornellà, Santa Coloma, Sant Adrià and Badalona.
Three arrests reported while operation continues
L’Hospitalet police have reported three arrests while the final operational report is still pending. One man was arrested in La Torrassa on suspicion of a drug offence after officers allegedly found him carrying an amount of tusi exceeding the threshold allowed for personal possession.
Tusi is commonly, though inaccurately, referred to as “pink cocaine”. The source did not state the quantity allegedly seized.
- Checks were carried out at the exits of Torrassa Metro station.
- Florida, Collblanc and Pubilla Cases Metro stations were also included.
- The operation involves the Mossos d’Esquadra, National Police and Guàrdia Urbana.
Modified scooters confiscated
Guàrdia Urbana officers also confiscated several modified electric scooters that exceeded the permitted maximum speed of 25 km/h. The operation did not specify how many scooters were taken.
The scooter checks have a direct public-safety purpose in L’Hospitalet. According to the operation’s information, half of violent robberies in the city are committed using a scooter, making modified vehicles a focus for officers during the deployment.
The police presence will remain in place well into Saturday morning as officers complete checks linked to the Kanpai plan.
