Stabbing and Fall Leave Four Injured
Four people were injured following a knife attack at a flat on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes in Barcelona, with the alleged attacker critically hurt after falling from a fourth-floor window. The incident occurred around 7:30 AM on Sunday, 6 September, in a building next to the Campana complex in the Marina de Port neighbourhood, part of the Sants-Montjuïc district. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, are investigating the events. Three men live together in the flat. One of their partners had stayed overnight. According to initial information, one roommate entered the bedroom where the couple was sleeping and began stabbing the man in bed without apparent provocation.
The woman tried to intervene and suffered several cuts to her back. The third roommate heard screams, rushed in, and attempted to separate them, receiving a superficial cut.
Alleged Attacker Falls as Police Arrive
After the assault, the suspected assailant left the room and inflicted stab wounds on himself before going to a window. As police units arrived at the scene, he jumped from the fourth floor onto the pavement below. Emergency services responded to calls made to 112. The Medical Emergency System (SEM) treated all four individuals at the scene. The man attacked in his sleep sustained eight stab wounds and was taken to hospital in serious condition, though not believed to be in immediate danger of death. His partner, who was cut while trying to stop the attack, and the third roommate are both in minor condition. The alleged attacker is in critical condition due to both self-inflicted knife injuries and trauma from the fall.
Investigation Underway
Due to their medical conditions, investigators have so far only been able to take a statement from the woman who was present during the attack. The inquiry remains in its early stages. Authorities are considering whether the suspect experienced a mental health episode that may have triggered the violence, though this has not been confirmed. Residents in the area reported shock at the sudden outbreak of violence in a normally quiet residential block. No motive has yet been established. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Mossos d'Esquadra crime reporting portal.
