A 24-year-old man is in critical condition after falling from a third-floor window in the Raval neighbourhood of Barcelona on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at around 5:45pm on Carrer del Tigre when the man, who had an active restraining order against him regarding his mother, reportedly entered the family home and began acting violently, damaging property inside.
According to emergency services, a relative alerted authorities after the man became aggressive. Officers from the Mossos d'Esquadra – Catalonia’s regional police – arrived within minutes. As they approached the building, the man exited through a window and fell from the third-floor balcony onto the street below.
Medical personnel from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) responded immediately, treating the man for severe injuries caused by the impact. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Police investigation underway
The Mossos d'Esquadra have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the fall. While no official cause has been confirmed, initial assessments suggest the man attempted to jump in an effort to escape arrest as officers closed in. The individual, of foreign origin, has multiple prior criminal records.
Family receives psychological support
Members of the man’s family, who witnessed the incident, were provided with psychological assistance following the event. The narrow street drew attention from passers-by and required a significant emergency presence, temporarily disrupting foot traffic in the Ciutat Vella district.
The safety protocols during interventions involving individuals in crisis are under review as part of standard procedure.
No officers were injured during the operation. The incident echoes previous cases in the area related to housing tensions and mental health emergencies, including earlier evictions at the same address cited in housing rights reports.
