Platform Closed Since 4:20 PM
Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) has closed the Liceu station platform on line L3 in the direction of Trinitat Nova this Monday 19th October 2026, following water accumulation caused by persistent rainfall across the city. The closure began at approximately 4:20 PM, and trains travelling in that direction are not stopping at the station. According to TMB, which announced the disruption via its official 'X' account, services on the affected branch continue to operate but bypass Liceu without stopping. Passengers heading to or from the station must use alternative routes or adjust travel plans accordingly.
L3 the Only Line Affected
As of 6:16 PM on Monday, line L3 remains the only metro line in Barcelona affected by the ongoing rain. Other lines are operating normally, though authorities are monitoring conditions closely. The weather alert follows warnings from Protecció Civil, which stated that rainfall in Barcelona will reach its highest danger level from midnight onwards. Meteocat, Catalonia’s meteorological service, has forecast heavy and locally torrential downpours along the central coastal and pre-coastal regions, with accumulations of up to 100 litres per square metre possible by Tuesday.
Extreme caution is advised, especially during travel, and citizens are urged not to cross streams or flooded areas due to the risk of sudden surges.
Protecció Civil has activated the Inuncat flood alert plan and is urging residents to take precautions. The emergency service reported responding to around ten weather-related incidents before 7:00 AM on Monday, including flooding and drainage issues.
What This Means for Commuters
Commuters using L3 between Zona Universitària and Trinitat Nova should expect delays and plan alternative routes. While the Liceu station remains open for access in the opposite direction, passengers travelling towards Trinitat Nova must disembark at the previous stop, Catalunya, and wait for further instructions or use connecting transport options. Real-time updates on metro service disruptions are available via the TMB website and the JoTMBé app. TMB advises checking service status before travelling, especially during the evening rush hour and overnight as rain intensifies.
