La Model, the former prison at Carrer d’Entença 155 in Barcelona’s Esquerra de l’Eixample neighbourhood, will resume free open days on Sunday 1 September after its August break, Barcelona City Council has announced.
Residents and visitors will be able to enter the main spaces of the building without a guide or prior registration on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The council says visitors may face a short queue when demand is high.
“All you need to do is turn up at La Model, at C/ Entença, 155,” Barcelona City Council says of the self-guided visits.
Free entry times and holiday closures
The former prison will be open at the following times, except on public holidays:
- Fridays, 4pm to 6pm.
- Saturdays, 10am to 2pm and 4pm to 6pm.
- Sundays, 10am to 2pm.
The council says La Model will be closed on 12 October, 1 November, and 6 and 8 December.
Guided visits require advance booking
Free guided visits, offered in Catalan and Spanish on the same three days, must be booked in advance through the La Model agenda. Barcelona City Council said the guided tours were fully booked until November, with further places for December due to be released.
Schools can also use the La Model website to check details and book guided visits designed for pupils.
Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited inside La Model. Pets are not permitted, apart from assistance dogs.
