New Location for Final Night Fireworks
The 2026 La Mercè Pyromusical will take place on Sunday 27 September at 10:00 PM, moving from its traditional site at Maria Cristina Avenue to the Bogatell breakwater on Barcelona’s coastline. The change follows ongoing transformation works at Fira de Barcelona’s Montjuïc venue, which have displaced several major public events. This year’s festival runs from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 September, with the pyromusical returning as its closing spectacle. The free, open-air event will last approximately 30 minutes, synchronising music and fireworks launched from the Bogatell breakwater.
Montjuïc Works Force Relocation
The shift marks a significant change after decades of pyromusicals set against the backdrop of the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc and the National Art Museum of Catalonia. According to El Periódico, the Fira de Barcelona’s renovation project includes construction of a new Multifunctional Palace, modernisation of the Congress Palace, and development of the Fira Barcelona Innovation Hub. These works, confirmed by Fira de Barcelona to span several years depending on construction timelines, have already affected the use of Maria Cristina Avenue for large-scale public gatherings.
Viewing Across the Seafront
The new coastal setting allows for broader public access along the seafront. While the Nova Icària area will have particular prominence, attendees can view the display from various points along the beach. The Mediterranean Sea and Barcelona’s skyline will form the visual context, replacing the urban grandeur of Montjuïc.

Josep Montero Curates 2026 Soundtrack
This year’s musical programme will be curated by Josep Montero, lead singer and creative force behind the Catalan band Oques Grasses. He succeeds Rosalía, who selected the 2024 soundtrack, and Estopa, who did the same in 2025. Montero has prepared a diverse selection highlighting Catalan music, with sound design and mixing by Marçal Cruz of Oido studio. Fireworks design and execution will be handled by Pirotècnia Igual, synchronised precisely with the musical score. The choice carries symbolic weight as Oques Grasses prepare for their farewell concerts at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys around the same dates, having sold nearly 220,000 tickets across four performances.
