A Celebration of Poetry and Resistance

The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona will host a major tribute concert for legendary singer-songwriter Paco Ibáñez on Tuesday 24 November 2026, bringing together an array of Spain’s most respected cultural figures in a celebration of music, poetry, and freedom. Titled Un poema, una vida, una cançó (A Poem, A Life, A Song), the event will honour Ibáñez’s six-decade career as a voice of resistance and poetic expression, just days after he turns 92. Ibáñez, born in Valencia in 1934, has long been recognised for setting the works of literary giants including Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, and Antonio Machado to music, turning his performances into symbols of protest during the Franco era and beyond.

Star-Studded Line-Up and Artistic Vision

The concert will feature performances by Joan Manuel Serrat, Maria del Mar Bonet, Amancio Prada, Marina Rossell, Soleá Morente, and the Cuarteto Cedrón, among others. Poets Bernardo Atxaga, Luis García Montero, and Fanny Rubio will also take part, alongside visual contributions from Pep Bou, known for his soap bubble artistry. Joan Font, founder of Comediants, will direct the show, which combines music, spoken word, and scenic elements to create what organisers describe as a 'magical and shared territory' on stage. Participating choirs include the Cor de la UAB and the Escola Voramar choir, while musicians such as Jabier Muguruza, Gérard Zuchetto, and Miro Casabella will also perform.

“A reaffirmation of humanism in the face of barbarism and a defence of poetry as a space of freedom.”

The tribute marks Ibáñez’s return to the Liceu nearly two decades after his debut at the venue on 23 April 2007, and about two years after his last Barcelona appearance at the Palau de la Música on 16 January 2025.

How to Attend

Tickets for the concert are now on sale via the Gran Teatre del Liceu's official website and at the box office. The event is scheduled to take place at the Liceu on Tuesday 24 November 2026, four days after Ibáñez’s 92nd birthday. This tribute underscores the enduring cultural impact of Ibáñez’s work, whose songs continue to resonate as anthems of truth and liberty across generations.
