Jordi Turull, secretary general of Junts, has demanded a rapid and decisive shift in housing policy from Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Catalan President Salvador Illa, and Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni.
"A turn is necessary, and fast, before it becomes irreversible," Turull said in a post on X, citing what he described as performative inaction by all three administrations. He accused the government bodies of prioritising image over effective solutions.

Turull stressed that housing must be a pillar of the welfare state, with dedicated budgeting and political focus. He urged the Generalitat to fully exercise its exclusive powers in housing matters, rather than following state-level initiatives it does not respect.
Junts' Housing Proposals
The party's proposals include legal security for small landlords, automatic and swift rental payments by public authorities when tenants face vulnerability-related arrears, and tax incentives for small property owners and young people.
Turull also called for a significant expansion of public housing stock, faster regulations for protected housing development, rehabilitation grants, and the reactivation of vacant properties held by Sareb, the Spanish asset management company.
These demands follow Junts' public opposition to a recent government decree extending rental contracts by two years. Turull argued the measure penalises small landlords and fails to address systemic imbalances.
"When housing policy makes an occupier more sympathetic than an owner, you are headed for failure," Turull said in earlier remarks, underscoring his party's stance.
