Fire Contained After Major Emergency Response

Firefighters from Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya have stabilised a forest fire on Sant Pere Màrtir mountain in the Collserola range. The blaze, which began in the afternoon of 14 August 2026, affected an area near the municipalities of Esplugues de Llobregat and Barcelona, with flames visible from the upper section of Pedralbes. The fire started near the Carretera de les Aigües, close to Avinguda Pearson and behind the Sant Joan de Déu hospital. It generated a large column of smoke visible across the metropolitan area, including Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental and Oriental, and Maresme.

The responsible teams are optimistic about controlling the flames following several aerial passes.

Emergency Measures and Public Warnings

The Barcelona City Council activated its Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk in alert phase, following the Generalitat’s declaration of very high fire risk in Barcelonès, which was already at level 3 of the Alfa Plan. Authorities issued a preventive confinement order for residents of Can Caralleu, a nearby settlement of around 2,500 people. The Guardia Urbana closed access to forest tracks and roads, including the Carretera de l’Arrabassada and entrances from Sant Cugat and Les Planes. Around thirty ground units from Barcelona firefighters and the Generalitat, supported by aerial resources, worked to contain the fire. The 112 emergency service received nearly 1,000 calls from the public reporting the smoke.
