Alert Triggered by Extreme Fire Risk

The Barcelona City Council activated the Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk at the alert phase this morning, following the Generalitat de Catalunya's activation of Level 3 of the Alfa Plan in the Barcelona region. The decision comes amid a day of very high forest fire risk across the city. All seven Barcelona Fire Stations are now on alert. Specialised resources have been reserved for Collserola, the large natural park bordering the city, where nearly 1,800 hectares under municipal jurisdiction are distributed across the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó, and Nou Barris.

Public Urged to Exercise Caution

Residents are being urged to exercise maximum caution. Since 15 March, it has been prohibited to carry out forestry work or any activity that could generate sparks within 500 metres of forest areas. This includes burning waste and using barbecues.

The public is asked to cooperate fully and avoid any actions that could trigger a fire, especially in and around natural spaces.

The Civil Protection, Fire Prevention and Extinction, and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS) began its forest fire campaign in early June, reinforcing teams ahead of the summer months. The campaign will remain active until mid-September, a period when heat increases the likelihood of wildfires.

The activation aligns with broader regional emergency protocols. The Generalitat’s Level 3 Alfa Plan indicates very high danger, prompting municipalities to prepare response units and alert civil protection services. The Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona confirmed the simultaneous activation of the Municipal Civil Protection Plan at alert phase due to combined risks from heat and fire.
