Heavy rain in Sant Cugat del Vallès had flooded car parks, businesses and streets by 12:43 on Tuesday, 29 September, closing the Martorell Street bridge and disrupting bus services. Drivers should avoid the affected roads, while passengers on the B7 and A4 interurban routes face diversions or shortened journeys.
TOT Sant Cugat reported that a private weather station in the town recorded more than 80 litres of rain per square metre in one hour. The outlet reported standing water at the Mira-sol Centre car park, in Mira-sol, one of Sant Cugat's districts.
Local Police have urged people to exercise extreme caution after several vehicles became trapped by floodwater, including on Martorell Street.
Road closures and bus changes
The bridge on Martorell Street has been closed because of water accumulating beneath it. Passages were also blocked on Safareig Street, Passeig del Nard, Avinguda Alcalde Escayola and Avinguda Països Catalans, according to TOT Sant Cugat.
- Buses are prohibited from using rambla del Celler.
- The B7 interurban route is being diverted via Ronda Nord and is not entering the town centre.
- The A4 interurban route is running only as far as Parc Pollancreda and is not reaching rambla del Celler.
Emergency crews responding to water accumulation
Firefighters had received about 10 calls concerning accumulated water, mainly in car parks including those on Santa Teresa Street and Goya Street. Local Police, the Public Works Brigade, Civil Protection and Civil Protection volunteers were responding at the affected locations.
Residents and commuters should avoid the listed roads and use the B7 diversion via Ronda Nord or the A4's temporary Parc Pollancreda terminus until services can resume their normal routes.
