Registration Details and Deadlines
The Consorci per a la Normalització Lingüística (CPNL) will open a new registration period for Catalan language courses from Wednesday 16th December to Monday 21st December 2026. The courses are set to begin in January and will be available at various levels, from A1 to C1, in both in-person and online formats. Individuals interested in enrolling must first verify their Catalan language level if they are new to CPNL or last took a level test more than two years ago. Proof of level must be submitted or a placement test requested by Friday 11th December. The Generalitat de Catalunya’s citizen information service, 012, provides guidance on course options and enrolment procedures. From Friday 27th November, the full course catalogue will be available via the CPNL’s online course finder, allowing prospective students to select the format and schedule that best suits their needs.
Expanded Course Offerings
This September, CPNL offered 46,169 places in its own Catalan courses, a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to figures published by Diari de Catalunya on 22nd October 2026. This expansion was made possible by the recruitment of over 100 new teaching technicians under the Shock Plan for Teaching Catalan to Adults and through a collaboration agreement with Barcelona City Council. In addition to its direct offerings, CPNL coordinates Catalan courses with local administrations, organisations, and entities. These coordinated courses have added 4,635 places at A1 and A2 levels, bringing the total number of available spots for the quarter to 50,804. These courses help reach new communities, accommodate varied schedules, and reduce reliance on quarterly registration cycles.
The CPNL is expanding access to Catalan learning through flexible, community-tailored courses across Catalonia.
The Department of Linguistic Policy funds instructor salaries and teaching materials for these coordinated courses, enabling local groups to identify specific language needs within their organisations.
How to Enrol
To register, applicants must be at least 18 years old, or 16 to 17 without having completed compulsory secondary education in Catalonia. Enrolment follows a two-tier priority system: preferential for those who completed a course in the past 12 months without dropping out, and general for all others. Registrations must be completed via the official CPNL enrolment platform by the deadline. Applicants should consult the CPNL website for full details on course locations, timetables, and level requirements.
