Comuns MP Lluís Mijoler has demanded that Catalan President Salvador Illa clarify what went wrong with Rodalies commuter rail services during the solar eclipse on Wednesday, calling for a full account of responsibilities over the transport collapse.
Mijoler described the situation as a preventable failure, noting that high passenger numbers following the astronomical event were expected. He highlighted the regional government’s extensive preparations for road traffic on the AP-7 motorway, including 700 Mossos d'Esquadra deployed and 150,000 viewing glasses distributed, and questioned why equivalent planning was not applied to rail mobility.

The MP pointed to severe overcrowding on tracks and platforms in parts of Tarragona, calling the situation a “collapse” and urging the Generalitat to assume political and operational responsibility.
Opposition and user groups join calls for transparency
Junts has filed 17 formal questions in the Catalan Parliament, seeking details on who designed and approved the rail operation plan, including whether the rail operator made unilateral decisions and whether the Generalitat signed off on them.
User advocacy platform Dignitat a les Vies, supported by other Rodalies passenger groups, has also submitted an official request for public information on the rail operation’s planning and execution. In a statement, the group denounced overcrowded trains and platforms, inadequate passenger information, confusing platform changes, and restricted access at several stations.
The group is demanding public explanations and the assignment of technical, managerial, and political responsibilities.
